Come to Mbeya and discover unspoilt Southern Tanzania
Trekking, cultural tourism, colourful markets, wildlife, village homestays, access to Lake Malawi

An introduction to the region
Mbeya is much less visited than Tanzania's more widely published tourist destinations. It provides a window on a different Tanzania where attractions are not spoilt by tour buses and hordes of overseas visitors. Our altitude of around 1700m means we enjoy a pleasant climate and usually escape the excessive summer heat of more low-lying parts of Tanzania. We have a range of accommodation options around the town from camping to up-market lodges.
The landscape of Mbeya region
Mbeya region includes the volcanic peaks of the Southern Highlands (the highest in Southern Tanzania), the Livingstone Mountains running down to the shores of Lake Malawi, pleasant farmland, bustling markets, tea and coffee plantations, the grasslands of the Kitulo Plateau and several lakes and waterfalls.
The attractions of Mbeya region
We have cultural, scenic and wildlife attractions within easy reach of Mbeya. We can organise day trips for short stay and 'stopover' visitors and can put together longer itineraries for people who are staying in Southern Tanzania for several days. We are within easy traveling distance of Ruaha National Park, one of the quietest game parks in Tanzania, with abundant wildlife including East Africa's largest concentration of elephant.
The twice weekly overnight train from Dar es Salaam is an inexpensive and fascinating way to travel to Mbeya. You pass through the Selous Game Reserve and get a really interesting snapshot of Tanzanian life.
